Deurim Jung, violin

Deurim Jung is a first year Violin Fellow at the New World Symphony. Most recently she has participated in Spoleto and Tanglewood Festivals as a fellow, contributing in section and leadership positions. She has received her Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern University studying with Gerardo Ribeiro where she recieved the Northwestern University Bienen Merit Scholarship and the Buffett Scholarship for Global Affairs. She continued her studies at the Juilliard School studying with Joseph Lin where she received her Masters. She has previously attended the Manhattan School of Music Precollege division and the Interlochen Arts Academy as a scholarship recipient. She has collaborated with Phillip Setzer and Joseph Spacek and she has participated in masterclasses given by Josef Spacek, Paul Huang, William Van der Sloot, Rachel Kolly, members of the Emerson Quartet, and members of the Juilliard Quartet.

Jung has attended the Interlochen Arts Camp as an Emerson Scholar, Meadowmount School of Music as a Virginia Farmer Fellow, the Center Stage Strings at University of Michigan, and the Heifetz Institute. She has also been invited to Musique dans le Gers Festival in France as a Young Artist. Deurim is a first prize winner of the Samuel and Elinor Thaviu Endowed Scholarship Competition and a finalist of the Northwestern Concerto/Aria competition.

Deurim is passionate about bringing music education to underserved communities, and has previously worked as violin instructor for Evanston Young Artists, and the Harmony Program. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting.
