We are excited that Agarita Inspires!, our series of concerts in area schools, is supporting the San Antonio Symphony League’s 2024-25 Paint to Music Contest. Students are invited to create visual art in their classrooms while listening to thematic music selections chosen by Agarita. These selections are designed to align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) teaching objectives. Teachers participating in the program will be provided with musical recordings and teacher guides.

In February (February 18-21), students will then be able to attend one of a series of concerts at venues across our community to hear the music selected for this year’s contest and to see images of the winning artwork.

Submitted artwork will be reviewed by a panel of judges in late January; typically 150 to 200 pieces will receive awards. Winners will also be recognized at a reception where their art will be displayed.

The Concert

The concert theme is :

American Roots: Tracing the American Experience Through Music.

It will include these pieces:

  • Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Nonet in F minor, movement 1

  • Florence Price, Adoration

  • Steve Reich, Clapping Music

  • Camile Saint Saens, Dance Macabre

  • Arturo Marquez, Danza de Mediodía, Marquez

  • Jessica Meyer, Getting Home

  • Miguel del Aguila, “obsessed milonga” from Salon Buenos Aires

  • John Williams, Air and Simple Gifts

Support for Inspires! Concert Series

Prints of select pieces from the Paint to Music program are displayed and auctioned at select Agarita concerts, with proceeds supporting the Inspires! Concert Series.

The League also selects certain artworks to be printed on note cards and Fiesta medals, and the sale of these items further supports the League's efforts.
