Details in Classical Music

How music became so specific, and why it matters. With Daniel Anastasio, pianist/lecturer.

From the sterile written scores of Bach to the picky instructions of Beethoven and beyond into the 21st century, how a composer chooses to write has massive effects on the performer’s interpretation, especially once the composer is no longer alive to elaborate. In this lecture, Daniel will explain the pros and cons of writing less versus more, how seriously to take extreme detail, and what to do when the composer hardly provides instruction.

Gallery Opening: Foundations of Imagination

Fall exhibition at Agarita Loft Fountains of Imagination features artwork by Symone Martinez, Dan Soder, Maya Sokovic, and Ali Wiesse; curated by Katy Silva León.

Fountains of Imagination draws inspiration from the poetry book “A Coney Island of the Mind” written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which explores the challenges of our time via supernatural, playful and distinctly imagined environments. The title of this exhibition is borrowed from the last section of poem 13: “how heaven is, the perfect picture of a monarchy, and there would be no fires burning, in the hellish holes below, in which I might have stepped, nor any altars in the sky, except fountains of imagination.”

These artists present work that is an allegory of modern life, similarly to the poems by Ferlinghetti, each from their own distinct creative perspective.

Private appointments upon request. Please call or text the curator, Katy Silva León at 909-518-2245.
