A native New Yorker, violist Marisa Bushman’s musical career has reached all corners of the world, performing throughout the United States, Europe, South and Central America, South Africa, and China.
Ms. Bushman is currently a member of the San Antonio Philharmonic’s viola section after moving to San Antonio in 2010 to join the San Antonio Symphony. An avid and active chamber music collaborator across her career, Marisa is a founding member of Agarita. In addition to playing, she has the fulfilling role of Executive Director for Agarita.
Ms. Bushman received her Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Masters in Viola Performance at Indiana University, Bloomington. Her principal teachers have included Atar Arad, and Paul Coletti. From 2008 to 2010, she was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, where she frequently sat principal under Michael Tilson Thomas and was a prominent fixture in the New World Symphony’s Chamber Music Series. As a member of Agarita, Ms. Bushman has been Luminaria’s Solo Featured Artist, performing at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mission San José, was voted Best of the City, and collaborated with a wide array of internationally renowned artists San Antonio has to boost of.
In her free time, Marisa enjoys riding a tandem road bike with her husband, Ignacio, exploring the Mission Trails of San Antonio with her dog, Maggie, good coffee and wine, cooking up a storm, and going on adventures with her son, Felix.
